Research and Education

Overview

Sharing information is a large part of what the Center for Shelter Dogs does and is one of their core values.  As part of this mission, the Center provides specialized learning opportunities such as workshops and seminars hosted at the Animal Rescue League of Boston and the staff regularly lectures at national and regional conferences.  An active research program is also maintained by the Center for Shelter Dogs in order to:

  • Better understand canine behavior and personality
  • Develop methods to measure and improve welfare in a shelter
  • Identify problem behaviors and implement behavioral interventions
  • Help shelters make successful matches

The results of all Center for Shelter Dogs research are used throughout all of their programs, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at professional conferences.
